Is Hans Rosling right? Religion and Fertility between and within Nations

Author: Michael Blume         Source: SciLogs

Readers of this blog might have noticed that my main focus of research (and those of colleagues such as Eric Kaufmann) has been the reproductive potential of religiosity. Lots of data and studies have conclusively demonstrated that the religious tend to have - on average - morre children than the secular.

Thanks to a tweet by German Co-Blogger https://twitter.com/#!/gedankenabfall, the news of an inspiring TED-talk in Qatar by Hans Rosling reached me even before it was posted on YouTube. (An email by a colleague in Leipzig followed suit. wink ) If you didn't have the chance to see it yet, please take your time - I promise it's worth every minute.

I’m not convinced that world population will stabilize at circa 10 million. The reason is that life expectancy is tending to increase in many countries. This means that, in due course, Hans may need extra boxes for those aged 100-125 and, possibly, even 125-150!!

Nice presentation indeed. I just wonder is he too optimistic.

On the other hand 10 bilion people is from ecolocical perspective certainly too much as is 7 bilion.
